Learning
at Withymoor is not only
for pupils but for parents
and extended family members
also. The school works
in partnership with both
Stourbridge and Dudley
Colleges to offer courses
to help adults keep abreast
of children’s learning
as well as increasing
and enhancing their own
knowledge and skills.
Courses can also lead
to accreditation if required.
Family
Learning courses for both
Literacy and Numeracy
run on a regular basis.
The general format for
both courses is as follows: |
|
| |
|
| Course
aims : |
|
|
|
| |
|
| •
|
To
acquire knowledge
and understanding
of the Literacy
/ Numeracy hour
and the technical
vocabulary used. |
| •
|
Increase adult confidence
to develop strategies
to use at home in
supporting children’s
learning experiences. |
|
|
|
|
| Structure
of the course : |
|
|
|
| |
|
| •
|
2 hour
sessions. The first
mirrors the Literacy
/ Numeracy hour
using adult resources.
The second hour
produces resources
to support children’s
learning. |
|
|
| |
|
| Length
of course : |
|
|
|
| |
|
| •
|
2 hours
per week for eight
weeks, starting
at 1:15 and finishing
at 3:15 in time
to collect children
from school. |
|
|
|
|
| If you have
pre school children, a crèche
will be provided if required.
|
|
| |
|
| Comments from
parents who have previously
completed the course include: |
|
| |
|
‘I
really enjoyed learning
about what my child will
be doing in the
Literacy / Numeracy hour’.
‘It
was really useful to learn
the technical language
so that I know what my
child is talking about
when he asks me to help
with his homework’.
‘It
was good to meet on a
regular basis not only
to increase knowledge
and skills but to socialise
with other parents’.

|
| In
the future, Withymoor aims
to extend its variety of
courses to include ICT for
beginners and Paediatric
First aid. If you have
a special interest and
we have enough demand,
we may be able to arrange
tailor made courses. Please
contact school for more
details. |
